Black Hills Vision (BHV) is a regional economic development organization
committed to advancing the region's quality of
life and creating an economic development "opportunity
environment."
BHV was conceived by three local and regional community groups: Black Hills Community Economic Development Inc., the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rapid City Area Economic Development Partnership. It was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 2004.
A capital fundraising campaign was completed in February 2005 with five-year
pledges from over 115 investors. Thirty-six of these
investors made commitments in excess of $50,000 and
became members of the BHV Board of Directors, which
includes seven mayors, four county commissioners, and
business leaders from banking, utilities, publishing,
healthcare, retail, manufacturers, chamber and economic
development organizations.
As a result of input from the community town hall meetings
in the fall of 2009, a second round of fundraising (Black
Hills Vision II) commenced in 2010. A goal of $2,000,000
was established and this project is ongoing as of the
fall of 2011. A kickoff reception for the private sector
investors was held on July 28, 2011 at the Sanford Underground
Laboratory with Governor Dennis Daugaard and GOED Commisioner
Pat Costello in attendance.
